Properties of Thermal Interface Materials
Will there be any material precipitation from thermal pads when heated?
Most thermal pad products contain silicone oil. T-Global has addressed the issue of silicone oil precipitation through two high-temperature chemical treatments and vacuum treatment. Additionally, the development of our non-silicone PC series thermal materials effectively prevents oil seepage.
How long is the lifespan of thermal pad materials?
T-Global’s thermal pads, made from silicone rubber, typically have a lifespan of around 20 years. The durability is largely determined by the silicone rubber's longevity.
Does the hardness of thermal pads change when heated?
T-Global’s thermal pads maintain their natural silicone rubber properties and can withstand temperatures between -40°C and 200°C without any significant change in hardness.
What does it mean when T-Global’s thermal pads are slightly sticky?
T-Global's thermal pads naturally exhibit slight adhesion due to the silicone rubber. This allows for easy assembly and prevents tearing, offering more convenience compared to thermal materials with backing adhesive.
Do thermal pads have a micro-adhesive surface?
Yes, T-Global's thermal pads feature a micro-adhesive surface, enabling easy positioning and reworking without tearing. This makes it simple for operators to remove and reuse the pad on heat sinks and casings.
What are the materials for thermal pads?
- Good reworking performance: Resilience, shock absorption, noise protection, insulation, support, and EMI protection (FAM series).
- High flexibility and thermal conductivity: High breakdown voltage, compression, and thermal conductivity (TG-A Series).
- Electrical insulation: Smooth surface, suitable for constant temperature radiation range (GT Series).
Can thermal materials come with backing adhesive?
Yes, T-Global's thermal pads can be supplied with backing adhesive, which is SGS certified. We offer both single-sided and double-sided adhesive options.
What are the components of thermal pads?
T-Global’s thermal pads are made of silicone rubber with added heat-conductive powder, colorants, cross-linking agents, flame retardants, and catalysts, synthesized through a special process. These materials provide thermal conductivity, insulation, and flame retardancy, making them ideal for heat dissipation.
What are the characteristics of thermal pads?
T-Global’s thermal pads are soft, elastic, compressible, micro-adhesive, electrically insulating, and have excellent thermal conductivity. They offer wide thickness options, chemical stability, long service life, and are reusable.
How to use thermal pads?
Simply peel off the protective film and place the thermal pad between the electronic component’s heat source and the heat sink or housing.
What are the applications of flame-retardant thermal pads?
Flame-retardant thermal pads are commonly used in LED lighting, switching power supplies, household appliances, LED TVs, mobile devices, network devices, communication devices, IC chips, and more.
How else can thermal pads be used?
T-Global can customize thermal pads with single-sided or double-sided adhesive. We also offer thermal adhesive tapes, thermal graphite sheets, and potting compounds for different customer needs. Available in 300*300mm size and thickness ranging from 0.2-20.0mm. Custom die-cutting and roll-form options are also available.
Is there an expiry date for the adhesive material?
Yes, thermal materials should be used within three months to maintain optimal adhesion.
Does the silicone rubber harden over time?
Yes, silicone rubber may harden by about 2-3 degrees on the Shore A or OO scale over time.
